ABOUT JENNY AND THE EFFINGHAM TEAM
Jenny Jelen Jenny Jelen is a passionate three day event rider determined to grow the sport in the Niagara region. She has successfully ridden up to the Preliminary level, and competed in both Canada and the US. Jenny enjoys the journey of developing horses from the ground up, introducing them to their "firsts" and helping them grow from there. She has done a considerable amount of work with young horses, and has ridden and coached riders in all three equestrian sports (eventing, dressage and jumpers). She is positive and enthusiastic, and brings that energy to everything she does. Jenny's riding resume includes a top five finish at the OHTA Champs - Preliminary division on a horse she developed from a ground up, solid scores in the Young Horse development classes in the Dressage ring, multiple trips to the Royal Winter Fair to compete in the Governor General's Cup Classes and Sport Pony, and she's ridden with a number of leading Canadian and North American riders who have complimented her skills and abilities. Her students have been successful at events, dressage shows and in the jumpers. Prior to horsing around full time, Jenny was a newspaper reporter in her hometown of Sudbury, Ontario. She co-authored a book called Spooky Sudbury, and once beat Randy from Trailer Park Boys in a (vegetarian) cheeseburger eating contest. The Team Everyone knows it takes a village. What makes Effingham Stables so special is the people. We don't have "clients" and "customers;" we have a barn family. Katarina Young oversees the day to day operations. She has worked on horse farms since the beginning of time, and is always smiling. Both horses and humans love working with her because of her kind and enthusiastic manner. Katarina is a competitive event rider, working up the levels on her homemade horse Lightning. Bella White, chief writer of The Effing(ham) Echo, is the primary weekend worker and Gus' owner. She is fairly new to riding, but is incredibly savvy in the barn. She is detail-oriented and keeps the barn to the highest standard. John and Adrienne Stull are the fabulous team responsible for most cool improvements made around the farm. They, along with their daughter Abby, own three horses at Effingham Stables, and are always thinking of creative ways to enhance the farm. Barn Mom Niki Karras adopted Jenny (as well as the other girls in the barn) when her own daughter moved overseas to pursue horses at the highest level. Her other daughter Ellen owns a horse at Effingham, and the two of them regularly bring awesome ideas and innovations to the farm. It truly is a team. The Effing(ham) Echo The Effingham Echo is an initiative started by the barn family. Once a month, the whiteboard in the barn entrance is updated to include the latest farm news in a newspaper-inspired format. It is brilliant, hilarious and contains at least 23 spelling mistakes each edition. It is the most fabulous and honest reflection of the amazing atmosphere Effingham Stables has grown to have. Check out some of our friends and supporters. Effingham Stables Effingham Stables is proudly owned by Kerry and Chris Maddocks. Kerry is often seen around the barn with her charming horse Duke, telling him to stop eating things and striving to keep his legs white. Chris is the official cat whisperer of Effingham Stables. |
